Marine Geochemistry

Investigations of geochemical processes and fluxes of dissolved components across the sediment-water-transition-zone (SWTZ) are major objectives of our research. Along the SWTZ different types of transport and reaction processes occurs. These include the decomposition of organic matter, release of nutrients, methane formation or the Submarine-Groundwater-Discharge (SGD). Worldwide, quantifications of SGD are relevant for estimates of groundwater renewal rates or budgets of dissolved nutrients or methane. For computations of spatial budgets or identification of geochemical provinces, Geo-Information-Systems (GIS) are applied. These objectives are part of lectures about geochemical cycles and processes or the application of GIS.
