Field Education

Introduction

Field courses are an essential part for geosciences. They last one to several days and aim at an in-field-visualisation of the material discussed in lectures. During field courses - including ship-based expeditions - students learn to apply specific methods and techniques such as the identification, registration and interpretation of geoscientific data. Furthermore, “geological thinking” in time and space is taught. Another aim is to become acquainted with the regional geology.

Excursions

At least 24 days of field work must be taken in addition to the field exercises, which are a mandatory part of modules in the bachelors program. 4 days count for the introduction to field work, 3 days for the structural geological field training. The remaining 12 days are freely selectable from an annually changing field-trip offer (notification each November for the following field season).
