Coastal Processes
Lecturers: André Freiwald, Dierk Hebbeln
This field trip focuses on recent coastal processes and environments at various coastal stretches of the German North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts. As coastal settings made up by unconsolidated sediments are predominantly controlled by the available hydrodynamic energy, different sites representing different energy levels will be visited. In addition, eroding and accumulating coastlines as well as estuaries will be investigated.
- Understand various active coastal processes and environments along the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts
- Understand interferences between natural processes and human activities, especially related to coastal protection
- Understand how (long-term) coastal development is controlled by the geological setting
