Introduction to Marine Geology

Content:

In this course selected topics of general marine geology are dealt with. Some of the topics are to be worked out by the active participation of the students. Selected chapters are presented as a lecture.

Here is a selection of the contents: - Structure and development of the ocean basins and ocean rims - Composition, nomenclature and distribution pattern of sediments in the ocean - Sediment transport and sedimentation processes - Sea level fluctuations - Extreme systems: hot vents, cold seeps, carbonate mounds - Use of marine resources - Human intervention .

Competences:

At the end of the course, the students can name key topics in marine geology and outline their content. Students can collect facts about selected content and present them in the course. Based on the former Marine Geology module, participants can explain the relationships between climate, sea and seabed.

Assessment:

Module examination "Geology and Stratigraphy of Marine Sediment" in the form of an oral examination (colloquium) at the end of the semester

Exam Form:

oral exam
