Geological Maps

Lecturers: Rebecca Rendle-Bühring

Content:

First, basics for understanding topographic and geological maps such as coordinate systems and various projections worked out. Afterwards, different geological architectural styles (inclined stratification, faults, folds) are constructed and interpreted using cross profiles with synthetic maps, later with real geological maps. Stratigraphic and tectonic aspects such as unconformities and hiatuses are also discussed using geological maps.

Competences:

After completing the course, students should be able to derive and understand the spatial position of geological bodies and layers from a two-dimensional geological map. In later off-road exercises, the graduates should implement and deepen the spatial imagination in the area.

Assessment:

Result of the written examination

Exam Form:

written exam
