Regional Geology
Lecturers: Frank Lisker
The course teaches the relationship between global and local geological processes and their environments with particular focus on Europe`s geological framework and development. Stratigraphy, structural geology, and igneous and metamorphic petrology are used to interpret geological regions.
Students are familiar with the general geology of Europe, and the type of data and synthesis involved in geological interpretations. They recognise different geological concepts and resulting environments (crustal extension, continental rifting, continental collision, orogenic collapse) through the use of geological maps and literature.
