Lecturers: Susann Henkel, Sabine Kasten

Content:

In the framework of the Project Course Geochemistry Helgoland we will provide a basic understanding of transport and geochemical/biogeochemical processes in the different coastal habitats on and around the island of Helgoland; students will work in small groups that develop small sub projects; this includes designing your own project, doing sampling in the field, analysing samples in the lab of the Alfred Wegener Institute on the island of Helgoland, interpreting the data and presenting your results

Competences:

basic knowledge of geochemical and biogeochemical processes in aquatic environments and in particular in aquatic sediments

Assessment:

the results of the groups will be presented and be submitted in the form of a short report

Exam Form:

project exercise report

Literature:

Schulz and Zabel (2006) (eds) Marine Geochemistry. Springer.
