Permafrost Hazards
Veranstalter: Sebastian Uhlemann
What is permafrost? How does it develop and how does it degrade? Which parameters affect permafrost degradation? What are the hazards related to permafrost degradation and what mitigation measures exist? We will focus and distinguish between hazards in Arctic and Mountain permafrost environments.
With hands-on exercises, we will explore permafrost distribution, its dynamics, and examine how different factors control permafrost degradation.
The students will learn the basics principles of permafrost landscapes, and the hazards related to permafrost thaw. They will apply their knowledge to assess permafrost related hazards.
Required basic experience with Geographic Information Systems.
