05-BGW-MP2 Mathematical Principles of Geosciences II
Representative Matthias Prange
The course contents are application-oriented and are based on the mathematical needs of the physics module in the 2nd semester (multidimensional functions and fields, vector analysis, multiple integrals, partial differential equations, Fourier series). On the other hand, fundamental topics of geostatistics are covered (statistical tests, correlation and regression, cluster analysis).
1) Students can use specific mathematical methods that are important for geoscientific work practice
2) Students have an extended understanding of mathematical modelling of simple physical or geoscientific problems
3) Students can apply basic methods of exploratory data analysis to geoscientific data
4) Students can apply methods of mathematical statistics to geoscientific problems.
