05-BGW-MP1 Mathematical Principles of Geosciences I
Representative Matthias Prange
The course content is application-oriented and is based on the mathematical needs of the physics module. The mathematical contents therefore cover the topics sequences, series, functions, differential and integral calculus, vector calculus, ordinary differential equations, probability and statistics as well as matrices and linear systems of equations.
1) Students have a basic understanding of elementary concepts and methods from calculus and linear algebra and can place them in an application-oriented context
2) Students can solve basic mathematical excercises and problems related to geosciences
3) Students have a basic understanding of mathematical modelling of simple physical or geoscientific problems
4) Students can apply basic methods of descriptive statistics to geoscientific data
