05-BGW-GS2 Professional Competences
Representative Michael Schulz
The professional internship of the B.Sc. Geosciences serves to gain an insight into the extremely diverse job market of geoscientists. Possible internship providers can be found in the industry (e.g. engineering offices, exploration companies, laboratories), in the public sector (e.g. authorities, museums, research and educational institutions outside the University of Bremen), associations and NGOs.
The four-week subject-related professional internship is part of the compulsory module General Studies - Professional Competences and should be completed by the 5th semester. The students themselves look for a suitable internship position. The internship advisor of the faculty will advise and clarify with you in advance whether your internship can be recognised as a professional internship. He also signs the internship contract of the department 05, which is signed in 3 copies:
1 copy for the internship advisor,
1 copy for the internship provider
1 copy for the student.
The successful completion of the internship is documented by a report from the intern and an internship certificate from the internship provider. The report (see guidelines) must be submitted to the internship advisor for review. The internship contract, report and internship certificate are submitted to the internship advisor, who will forward the “Pass” to the Examination Office if the internship is successfully completed.
Details of the professional internship are regulated by the internship regulations. It is possible to split the internship period, e.g. during the semester. Relevant professional activities can be recognized as an internship. The examination board decides on the recognition.
The professional internship is a good opportunity to gain experience abroad. You can get advice on this in the study consultancy office of FB 5, the International Office and the Career Center. Please note the information and links.
Students who would like to complete an internship of at least two months in a European country can apply for a scholarship within the framework of ERASMUS+. This includes a monthly support of approximately 300 € as well as a subsidy for travel costs and foreign language preparations.
For an internship outside Europe, you can receive financial support from the PROMOS program.
For research-enthusiastic bachelor students the DAAD offers the Rise Program with research internships worldwide.
Students have gained insight into possible fields of professional activity after their studies.
