Rügen and Baltic Coast (15-20.09.2025)

Lecturers: Karl-Heinz Baumann, Torsten Bickert

Content:

The excursion to Rügen and the Baltic Sea coast deals with the genesis of deposits from the Cretaceous to the Holocene and the formation of the coast and the hinterland through the last ice ages to current hydrodynamic processes.
The second part of this field exercise focuses on inland sediments in the Bremen area. Sediments deposited within the last 300,000 years will be presented and studied. In addition to the interpretation and description of the different sediments, the understanding of their spatial distribution plays a central role.

Competences:

- Understand the main active coastal processes and environments in the southern Baltic Sea with a focus on Rügen
- Understand interferences between natural processes and human activities, especially related to coastal protection

Assessment:

Written report

Exam Form:
