Alb, Ries, Hegau (31.08.-05.09.2025)

This 7-day field exercise introduces the regional geology of the Mesozoic in southern Germany, with a focus on the Keuper and Jurassic sequences in the strata of the Swabian Alb, as well as their Neogene to Quaternary changes through uplift and karstification. Further topics are the meteorite impacts in the Nördlinger Ries and Steinheim Basin as well as the Miocene volcanism around Bad Urach and in the Hegau.
- Identification and interpretation of regional rock sequences
- Assessment of volcanic and impact structures and rocks
- Independent recording of lithological profiles
- Preparation of an excursion report, embedded in current literature
