Lecture on simple systems such as Auger, Pürkheimer, etc.
Lecture on gravity coring, piston coring, and hydraulic systems
Lecture IODP and associated APC techniques and pros/ cons
Lecture on wireline drilling and rotary drilling
Lecture on drill bits and their purpose
Coring techniques and curation
Riser drilling, hole completion
Seafloor drilling, lake drilling, mobilke systems
Borehole logging, self-contained tools
MWD and LWD
Drilling fluids
Industry-style drilling: deviated holes, casing operations, etc.
borehole experiments: instruments, (scientific) purpose, etc.

Competences:

- obtain basic knowledge about the most common drilling techniques
- distinguish between coring, drilling, DL and MWD/LWD
- assess significance of the various techniques for industry and academia

Assessment:

- assessment of quality of the portfolio contents from different exercises during class
