Physical Coastal Hazards

Lecturers: Sebastian Uhlemann, Hildegard Westphal

Content:

This part of the lecture deals with hazards experienced by coastal areas, in particular coastlines that are not subject to engineering activities for coastal protection, namely in tropical countries. We will touch upon sea-level rise, subsidence, erosion, delta dynamics, and the specific case of coral reef islands. Interventions and resilience are being discussed as well as nature-based solutions. The lecture part will be complemented by short presentations (June 30) given by the students on specific topics that are considered as examination of this part of the lecture. These assignments will be introduced and explained on June 23.
