Aptitude Test
for admission to the MSc Program "Materials Chemistry and Mineralogy"
Why do we conduct an aptitude test in the application process?
How is the aptitude test score used in the admission process?
How are confidentiality and data protection ensured?
The aptitude test is send by e-mail. At the testing date and following prior invitation, you will receive your test by e-mail to the e-mail address you’ve entered into the MOIN application portal. You must return the completed test to the test-sender within the testing period. After the correction you will receive your test result again by e-mail.
Test scores remain confidential and are exclusively used for admission purposes in the current year and deleted, thereafter. Registration data and test scores will never be disclosed to other sides or used in other contexts. Do not share or disseminate your test forms and send your answers only to the e-mail address from which you received the test.
What is the range of topics and how is the test score calculated?
How are the test assignments structured and how do I answer them?
There are different kinds of exercises. Each answer is worth up to 10 points. To solve the test, you will need your undergraduate study knowledge, text books of introductory level and/ or reliable information available on the internet, a PC or pocket calculator, pen, and paper. None of the questions requires special software or programming skills. For multiple choice questions, only one answer is correct. If you think that there is more than one correct answer, choose the one that you consider most suitable. The test is provided as a regular PDF document. Please make sure that you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on the computer. You can solve the test directly online or alternatively on a printed version and then send it back as a pdf attachment, a scan or a photograph. However, be aware that all answers that are not legible cannot be scored. It is your responsibility to ensure receipt, response and return of the test.
How is the aptitude test organized and timed?
You will be invited to participate in the aptitude test for MSc Materials Chemistry and Mineralogy after having successfully passed the formal and program specific check by the central admission department SfS-I and the MCM admission committee. The invitation will be sent to the e-mail address that you have entered into the online application portal MOIN. The invitation will include further information on the test like personal data needed, the test date ect. On the test date you will receive the test as a pdf-file via e-mail and have then 24 h to send back the completed test sheet. Please directly answer to the e-mail you received earlier to ensure the correct context.
How is the test evaluated and certified?
Your completed test sheet will be evaluated by matching your answers with the solution file. A test certificate will then be emailed to you within short. Remember that you need to pass the test with at least 50% to get admission to the program. The test cannot be repeated within the currently running admission process.
