Basic Concepts of Sediment Dynamics
Veranstalter: Morten Iversen
This course introduces the laws and equations used to calculate sediment resuspension, transport, deposition and settling velocity. The hydrodynamic processes (specifically waves and wave-related currents, tidal and river currents) that control sediment transport and the resulting sedimentary systems in coastal areas are presented during the lectures. The course also covers the formation of bedforms under different flow regimes, which will be observed in laboratory experiments.
-Quantify sediment entrainment, transport and deposition
-Understand the formation of bedforms under different flow regimes
-Understand the factors and processes controlling sedimentation and settling of particles in the water column.
The mark of the exam will represent 50 % of the total module mark.
