ERASMUS

Within the framework of the European ERASMUS+ program, you have the opportunity to study at one of the European partner universities of your study program for at least 2 to 12 months within a study cycle (BA, MA or PhD). The ERASMUS+ program grants you:

  • waiving of the whole study fees at the host university
  • support service at the home and host university
  • language preparation
  • recognition of your study records at home
  • mobility grant according to three country categories

Likewise, the ERASMUS+ program supports internships between 2 and 12 months per study cycle.

PROMOS

The Promos mobility program promotes study-related stays abroad outside the Erasmus area with partial grants for a maximum length of 3 months per study cycle (BA/MA). The funding period runs from 1 January to 31 December each year. In addition to the three months per cycle, a one-time course fee of 500, - Euro for a language- or major-specific course can be funded. Only exchange stays for which no DAAD-programs (IAESTE, DAAD annual scholarships, etc.) apply are supported. The partial funding rate averages €350 - 450/month.

AuslandsBAföG (Federal loan after Federal Law on Support in Education) / Education Loan

Exchange studies can be funded via AuslandsBAföG. Because of higher costs of living abroad, the assessment limit according to the parents` income is higher than for domestic BAföG. Students who are not supported by domestic BAföG may receive financial support for their exchange stay. In addition to the basic amount and the foreign contribution, which is adjusted to the cost of living in the host country, study fees can be reimbursed up to 4,600 euros per academic year.

An educational loan can also be granted to students for their stay abroad. It is awarded by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau.

You can also take out a student loan. The CHE (Centre for Higher Education development) offers a comparison of existing offers.
