Mass and Energy Transfers coupled to Plate Tectonics

Lecturers: Wolfgang Bach, Marta Pérez Gussinyé, Volkhard Spieß

Content:

Students present selected topics of geophysics and petrology of the ocean crust. Core of the presentations will be specific research papers, but the research problem needs to be introduced broadly and ramifications of the specific paper to the general field need to the highlighted. The presentations are followed by discussions, in which ALL students are expected to participate.

Skills:

Critical evaluation of key papers and realization of their impact on specific fields of research. Apprehending how geophysics and petrology can complement each other in solving outstanding research questions, revolving around the construction, evolution, and subduction of the ocean crust.

Exam:

seminar talk

Literature:

Will be provided in the form of journal articles
