Janina Groninga is scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation

2020-06-03
Author: Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Hinrichs

During her studies, Janina Groninga conducts research in the Organic Geochemistry group, where she quickly became a well-recognized team member while writing her bachelor’s thesis. Her outstanding bachelor’s thesis in Organic Geochemistry competes with master’s theses in terms of scientific progress and depth and was recognized by the FB5 with a Best Thesis award in 2019. Prof. Hinrichs, who nominated her for the scholarship, states: "Never before I have witnessed such an outstanding scientific achievement in a bachelor’s thesis, which Janina completed with ease, joy and enthusiasm. Janina’s dedication to research is blended with an already remarkable personal and scientific maturity".

Besides studying Janina Groninga is engaged as student representative in commissions of the academic self-administration, supports other students as tutor and demonstrates a high level of social commitment.

The new scholar says: "The support of the Studienstiftung means a lot to me and motivates me to perform at my best in the future. I am very much looking forward to the opportunities that the scholarship opens up for me and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who have made this possible. Especially the Hinrichs Lab and the FB5 for the exciting and instructive years and the entry into a scientific career".
