Applied Petroleum Geology
Honorary Professorship
Exploration and development for oil and gas are characterized by an intensive interaction between geoscientific research and industrial practice. Petroleum exploration has generated important scientific and technological spin-offs like sequence stratigraphy or 3D seismic which have provided fundamental scientific evidence on the evolution and the architecture of sedimentary basins. For the decarbonization of the global energy systems methods and competences developed for the petroleum industry will be mission critical elements. This applies especially for deep geothermal energy, the underground storage of CO2 as well as the future storage of green hydrogen.
Working Area
Integrated analysis of sedimentary and tectonic inventory of basins and reservoirs. Reserves evaluation and assessment of field development plans. Technology transfer for subsurface decarbonization projects. Decision processes in integrated teams. Methods
Mapping of geological parameters relevant for exploration combined with integrated risk assessment through the rigid application of play-based exploration principles. Statistical analysis for the commercial evaluation of project portfolios.Prof. Dr. Martin Fleckenstein
