Sea level and coastal changes

Honorary Professorship

We work on past sea-level changes and on the effects of current climate change on coastal environments. The focus of our research is understanding sea-level changes in the past through the measurement of past sea level indicators and comparison with earth models to disentangle local sea level changes caused by climate variability versus those caused by earth processes (e.g., tectonics).

We have a parallel interest in modern coastal environments, where we investigate coastal erosion, extreme wave events, interactions between ecological and geological processes and trajectories of coastlines and nearshore environments under changing climates and sea levels.

Working Area

Western Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterra-nean, Southeast Asia, Polynesia

Methods

Geological mapping, coastal stratigraphy, hydrodynamic modeling, relational databases.
