    Geochronology – Basin Analysis

    Former Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Kuss

1979 diploma geology, university Erlangen 1983 promotion paleontology, university Erlangen 1989 habilitation geology, TU Berlin

    positions:
1981-83 Institut für Paläontologie, university Erlangen; 1983-89 Institut für Geologie und Paläontologie, TU Berlin; 1990-91 Institut für Geologie und Paläontologie, university Hamburg

    Professor in Bremen 1991 - 2018

    research areas:
Sedimentology, microfacies, biostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, regional geology

Our research and teaching activities concentrate on sedimentary rocks and their fossil content. For the reconstruction of depositional and ecological settings and basin-filling processes we use geochemical, sedimentological and micropaleontological methods.

    Working Area

Field work concentrates on Cretaceous-Palaeogene successions in North Africa and the Middle East, on Carboniferous-Permian platform carbonates of Svalbard, and on Early-Middle Triassic intervals in Central Germany.

    Methods

High-resolution bio-, litho-, chemo-, and sequence stratigraphy – light and electron microscopy – basin modelling.
