Professional Internship
In general
The internship serves to gain an early insight into the profession of geoscientists in industrial laboratories, exploration companies, engineering offices or authorities.
A four-week professional internship is part of the compulsory module career prospects. It can be extended by a further four weeks (then counted as General Studies). You set out to find a suitable internship yourself. The internship advisor of the department will advise and clarify with you in advance whether your internship can be recognized as a professional internship. He also signs the internship contract (present contract in 3 copies for signature:
1 copy for the internship advisor,
1 copy for the internship provider, 1 copy for the student.)
The successful complementation of the internship is evidenced by a report and an internship certificate / certificate from the employer. You submit the report to the internship advisor for review. The internship advisor will forward the report and certificate or internship certificate to the examination office.
Details of the internship are regulated by the internship regulations. A division of the internship into smaller units is possible. Relevant professional activities can be recognized as an internship. The examination board decides on the recognition.
Internship abroad
The professional internship is a good opportunity to gain experience abroad. You can get advice on this at the Practice Office of the FB Geowissenschaften, the International Office and the Career Center. Please refer to the advice and links.
Students who would like to complete an internship of at least two months in a European country can apply for a scholarship within the framework of ERASMUS+. This includes monthly support of approximately €300 as well as a subsidy for travel expenses and foreign language preparations.
For an internship outside of Europe, the funding program PROMOS is available.
For students who are enthusiastic about research and are in their 6th semester or less, the DAAD offers the Rise-Program:Research Internships in Canada and the United States, as well as worldwide.
