Successful “World of Stones” 2026
“World of Stones” 2026, held at Bremen’s Brodelpott cultural center on the last weekend of February, was well attended: numerous visitors explored minerals, fossils, and amber, took advantage of the specimen identification service at the University of Bremen’s booth, and attended the lectures presented by the Geoscientific Collection.

Professor Hajo Eicken takes over as scientific director of AWI
On March 20, 2026, Professor Hajo Eicken will take over as scientific director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). Born in Bremerhaven, he received his doctorate in 1990 from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Bremen. Until 1997, he worked at the Alfred Wegener Institute in the field of oceanic and atmospheric physics.
