Former Prof. Dr. Olaf Brockamp

Raw materials and associated products are the building blocks of economic development. The research group studies the crystal chemistry and origin of ore minerals, ceramic raw materials and microcrystalline clay minerals. As a result the group works closely on environmentally relevant problems.

Working Area

Fossil geothermal areas and their mineral deposit potential – Recent sediment accumulation in coastal regions and climate-dependent fluvial sediment supply – Structural determinations on single crystals of clay minerals.

Methods

Analysis of the compositions of minerals and rocks using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, microscopy, infra-red spectrometry, X-ray diffraction – microbeam analysis by energydispersive X-ray spectrometry.
