„Fjord tales – what can the fjord floors ‚tell' us about the activity of glaciers on Svalbard in the past?“
Geo-Colloquium on April 19, 2017
The presentation will commence with a brief introduction to the Department of Geosciences and UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. The scientific part of the presentation focuses on work that members of the department have performed in fjords on Svalbard (~80 °N) during the past decades. This includes examples of glacial landforms and sedimentary processes in glacial environments identified on acoustic data and in sediment cores, and how this information is used to reconstruct the evolution and dynamics of glaciers on Svalbard during the past c. 15,000 years.
