Access to the Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) at FB5 (rds-geo)

How to connect to RDSH and start a session:

Access from a Windows desktop:

Start your VPN client and change the VPN server address to " vpn-hc.uni-bremen.de/geo-rds. Specify your (Uni Bremen-)username (including @uni-bremen.de) and the corresponding password for the VPN connection
On your Windows computer, activate the Remote Desktop Client (e.g., type "remote desktop" in the command field of the Windows taskbar and activate the RD client)
You have to enter information to the windows appearing": Both, the
Computer rdsh.geovdi.geo.uni-bremen.de and (via "Optionen einblenden" and the tab "Erweitert" click "Einstellungen")
the Remotedesktop-Gatewayserver rdsgw1.geovdi.geo.uni-bremen.de must be specified. Select the checkbox "Eigene Remotedesktop-Gatewayanmeldeinformation für Remotecomputer verwenden".

Login with the domain user account (rdsuserXX) of the remotecomputer just like:
Username: geovdi\<username> (e.g. geovdi\rdsuser01 )

Access from a Linux desktop (tested on CentOS 7.9 and Ubuntu 22.04)

Download and install a recent version of Freerdp (from https://www.freerdp.com/ or distribution repositories)
Connect to VPN (see above)
xfreerdp +credentials-delegation /u:YOUR_USER_NAME /d:geovdi /v:rdsh.geovdi.geo.uni-bremen.de /g:rdsgw1.geovdi.geo.uni-bremen.de /gt:rpc
Resizing the window does not work for me. Depending on your screen you might want to play with the options " /w:1280 /h:1024 "

Access from a Mac (Untested):

Search for "Microsoft-Remotedesktop" in the Mac App store and read instructions and Datenschutz comments. If you like that download and install the app.
Open this App and try to follow the steps of the Windows description above.
(Hint: If the backslash is not on your keyboard you can get it with "Option + shift + 7")

How to change your password
After logout your stored data will be available after next login
Data storage in your profile (Desktop, Downloads, ...) is limited to 10GB.
Additional storage is available via drive " Z: " , which resides on a fileserver
Unfortunately, there is no support for graphics hardware
Data exchange should be done by external tools
Please, do not share your home PC drives with this Windows-desktop! There are security reasons and we will remove this feature soon.
There is NO BACKUP and no guarantee for your data on our machines! Always have at least on copy on external devices (like Seafile, which might be replaced in 2023 by something else).
