Reinhard X. Fischer was elected president of the German Mineralogical Society
In December 2017 Prof. Dr. Reinhard X. Fischer was elected president of the German Mineralogical Society (DMG) for 2019-2020 being vice president in 2018 and 2021. The DMG with more than 1600 members represents the largest association of mineralogists in Germany. As a crystallographer, his research topics are especially in the fields of zeolite and mullite type materials used as catalysts and ion exchangers, and as components in refractories, respectively. Another research topic is the determination of the contribution of chemical elements to the optical properties of minerals and inorganic materials to calculate the refractive index of the solid compound. His election also demonstrates the relevance of crystallography in the area of mineralogy.
