Wissenschaftliche Interessen und Forschungsschwerpunkte Generelle Forschungsinteressen Mein wissenschaftliches Interesse gilt insbesondere den Coccolithophoriden sowie auch der Klimaentwicklung während des Plio/Pleistozäns.
• Coccolithophoriden (Artenvorkommen und –häufigkeiten) als Proxy für paläozeanographische und paläoklimatische Rekonstruktionen im Plio-/Pleistozän des Atlantiks.
• Morphometrische Studien zur intraspezifischen Variationen von Arten (z.B. Coccolithus pelagicus oder Emiliania huxleyi) in Sedimentfallen und geologischen Proben
• Quantitative und qualitative Untersuchungen zum Karbonatbudget; insbesondere Arbeiten zur Bedeutung und Beitrag von einzelnen Arten zur Coccolithophoridenkarbonat.
• Transport und Sedimentation von Coccolithophoriden (sowie anderer biogener Karbonatpartikel) durch die Wassersäule zum Meeresboden und deren Akkumulation im Sediment.
Zudem umfaßt mein Interessensfeld auch sedimentologische Aspekte bei der Rekonstruktion des Paläoklimas (u.a. die quantitative Analyse und Erfassung von Siltpartikeln) sowie Untersuchungen zur Karbonaterhaltung. Hauptarbeitsgebiete liegen im Atlantik (vor allem der Südatlantik, der östlicher Nordatlantik und das Europäisches Nordmeer), aber auch in den Auftriebsregionen vor Chile und Somalia.
