On behalf of the entire faculty, we would like to welcome Oliver Plümper as the new Professor of Mineralogy at the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Bremen. Oliver Plümper´s research focuses on the interaction of aqueous solutions and minerals and their effects on the material properties of rocks. He links nanoscale processes on mineral surfaces with macroscopic system behaviour in order to quantify fluid-induced changes in permeability and reaction turnover in the system.more »
The first week of the summer semester was an exciting one for the new students at the Faculty of Geosciences. Deputy Dean of Studies Heiko Pälike welcomed them and Barbara Ventura provided insights into organization and structure of their studies. Frank Lisker and Thomas Pape taught basic geological principles in a two-day course "Elements of Geology" followed by a short excursion into Bremen rocks. Our committed StugA rounded off the program with interesting activities, such as geo-cinema and an introduction to Bremen´s cultural landscape.more »
