Facies control on the stratigraphic architecture of carbonate sequences (Triassic, Germany), Kuss and Msc-/BSc students (in co-operation with TLUG)

This project is focussed on the stratigraphic refinement of high frequency eustatic sea level fluctuations that govern the cyclic deposition during the Lower Muschelkalk (Thuringia, Hesse). We will apply high resolution sequence stratigraphic concepts and define the cyclic patterns within a scale ranging from decimeter to meter cycles of 4th to 6th orders. In addition, carbon isotopes are expected to improve the existing of chronostratigraphic framework and will allow for a better correlation of the lower Muschelkalk marker beds on a time scale of several tens thousands of years. Furthermore, the internal stratal architecture of the generally accepted southeast dipping Lower Muschelkalk ramp will be re-interpreted.
I phD-project is envisaged to reconstruct a more detailed outcrop analogue of the shallow ramp deposits and to us these data as input parameters for 3D modelling.
