05-BGW-HI3-a Regional and Applied Hydrogeology

Beauftragte/r Thomas Pichler

Learning Contents:

Hydrogeological cycles and processes are discussed in connection with various computer programs. Contents include the evaluation of hydrogeological and chemical data, the creation of tables and graphs as well as their analysis.
Further topics are the geology and hydrogeology of Germany by regions. Special topics typical for the respective regions, including groundwater salination, denitrification due to land use, influence of gas and oil extraction on groundwater, and risks of geothermal use of the aquifer

Learning Outcomes, Targeted Competencies:

Students will gain an overview about the regional hydrogeology of Germany and will have familiarized themselves with the geology and hydrogeology of a region in Germany by research
Participants will acquire knowledge of current hydrogeological topics such as drinking water production, groundwater protection, and influence of anthropogenic activities such as agriculture on groundwater
After the course, the participants can work on hydrogeological questions with hydrogeological working methods such as special hydrogeological diagrams (e.g. Piper) and ion balance analyses. Participants will gain knowledge of regional geological/hydrogeological web services, how to utilize them and know about restrictions. Students will further develop their skills by presenting their results in a lecture and participate in critical discussion of the presented results.
