Gotland, Sweden (next in 2027)

Lecturers: Torsten Bickert

Content:

The Silurian of Gotland offers an advanced field exercise related to carbonate reefmound evolution, carried out using a wide range of sediment geological recording techniques (e.g. profile recording, creation of facies maps, preparation of exposure sketches, true-to-scale representation of complex exposure conditions and sediment bodies, recording and statistical evaluation of measurements in selected areas and profile sections). The main goal is the independent recording of geological sediment findings in a selected region and their complete documentation in a comprehensive scientific field report.

Competences:

- In-depth knowledge of sediment geological and tectonic questions
- Application and documentation of various field techniques
- Synoptic evaluation of field observations
- Integration in Earth history

Assessment:

50% Field work
50% Report

Exam Form:
