is most simply an International Research Training Group with a focus on topics located in the Arctic realms. Many processes taking place in the Arctic are only rudimentarily known, yet they play a major role in e.g. global climate or far-reaching food webs. Since the corresponding research questions require new specialists, the Canadian-German cooperation ArcTrain was founded in 2013. By an excellent educational framework, an interdisciplinary view on Arctic problems and a strong international network we are given the means to try to tackle those large problems in our future.

In the time frame from 2013 to 2022, the project is funded jointly through the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) under its Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program (CREATE) scheme.

The heart of the ArcTrain project are PhD and master students both in Germany and Canada whose research is focused on the Arctic and Subarctic realm. They are guided by experienced researchers.

You want to learn more about the current ArcTrain members and our constantly growing group of alumni?
