The focus of our research is to elucidate the geochemical evolution of the Earth and its oceans using stable and radiogenic isotopes. We investigate remarkable events in earth history such as extreme transitions between icehouse and greenhouse, mass extinctions and global ocean acidification. This framework provides an excellent opportunity in understanding past environmental changes and could help us to predict the behaviour of earth’s environment during future climate changes. An additional focus is on transport and recycling of elements at active continental margins. We also investigate the impact of environmental changes on the sediment input from rivers and meltwater into the ocean based on provenance studies. Isotopic archives are silicate rocks, carbonates, evaporites and hydrothermal water.
