Vera Schlindwein is a new AWI cooperation professor for ´Polar and Marine Seismology´
Jointly with the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, the department of Geosciences at Unviersity of Bremen appointed Prof. Dr. Vera Schlindwein as professor for “Polar and Marine Seismology”. Vera Schlindwein is a geophysicist and a renowned specialist for seismology. Her main research addresses ultra-slow spreading deep-sea ridges, and she is expert for deployment of geophysical instrumentation in polar marine areas. She also works interdisciplinary at the interface between geophysics, glaciology and vulcanology.
Vera received a degree in geophysics from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Unviersity in Munich. Her doctorate was awarded by the University of Bremen. After postdoctoral research at the Universtiy of Durham and an appointment at the Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften in Hannover, she joinded AWI in 2003 and became head of a young investigator group funded by the DFG Emmy Noether Programme. In 2014, she received her habilitation in geophysics.
