The Project: aim and strategy
aim: identification and analysis of the driving mechanisms of paleo and future climate changes strategy: combination of palaeoclimatic data and different Earth system models. The numerical simulations contain climate transitions at the last glacial-interglacial cycle, as well as the next millennium that allows to examine the involved feedbacks loops and to estimate thresholds and resonances in the climate system. Special attention is paid to the role of the thermohaline ocean circulation, the hydrological cycle, the cryosphere, the vegetation, the dominant pattern of atmospheric variability, as well as the influence of human being on the climate system.
